How to Enjoy Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

How to Enjoy Valentine’s Day When You’re Single

As a society, we’re pretty split about Valentine’s Day. There’s a lot of opinions flying around, however, we can all agree that whether you think it’s the most romantic day of the year or a huge waste of money, Valentine’s Day is for the couples. For those of us who don’t have somebody to spend the day with, the endless “romance spam” on every advert, Instagram post and poster gets tiring, quickly. Luckily for any singletons out there, we’re here to help. We’ve put together this list of all the ways to have the best Valentine’s day ever, no partner necessary.

  1. Switch Off

There’s nothing worse than Valentine’s Day on Instagram, even some of the happiest couples can find endless engagement photos, bouquets of roses with the caption “boy did good this year” and rosy snaps from Valentine’s mini-breaks cringeworthy, and if you’re single, double the disgust. There’s a lot of great things about being single but browsing through social media on Valentine’s Day makes it very hard to remember that, so this February, switch-off. Spend your night doing other things you love, by yourself, and forget about what everybody else is doing.

  1. Treat Yourself to a Romantic Dinner

If there’s one good thing about February the 14th, it’s the food. All of the supermarkets are promoting some delicious deals, and the best part about enjoying them single is that there is no need to compromise. You don’t have to deal with anybody else’s allergies or agree to a seafood risotto because your significant other doesn’t share your love of steak. It’s all about you! Plus, most of the deals advertised at this time of year come with enough food for two, which means that lunch the next day is sorted… Win, win!

  1. Make the Most of Galentine’s Day

Single friends have to stick together this time of year, and whether you love or hate the term, “Galentine’s Day” is a very real thing. Some outlets are even selling Galentine’s cards this year, giving you the chance to show your besties exactly what they mean to you, and avoiding a lonely Valentine’s Day for one in the process.

  1. Binge-Watch Something Totally Un-Romantic

There is no shortage of series’, films and Netflix originals with absolutely nothing to do with love to get you through this Valentine’s Day. The likes of Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect will remind you to appreciate the friendships you have, but if you’re after something to remind you of just how much you don’t want to be in a relationship can be, try something darker like You on Netflix, and if all else fails, there is always Legally Blonde.

  1. Remind Everybody That the Day After is National Single’s Day

That’s right, February 15th is officially National Single’s Day, and if the couples get to make such a fuss about Valentine’s Day, then there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t get to shout about that. Plus, if you talk about it enough, somebody might actually take you seriously enough to buy you a gift… What have you got to lose?

Single or not, we want to know how you’ll be spending this Valentine’s Day. Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to have a good one.
