Are you creating compelling content? Left wondering why no one seems to be that interested? As a social media manager, I’ve often felt lost in the algorithm sea of carousel posts, gifs and reels. Sometimes I’ll post on the fly and the engagement will be high. Other times I’ll spend quite some time writing out a well-thought-out caption and then nothing. Tumbleweed. It’s mind-boggling. But whilst there are many things I can’t quite get my head around, there are a few things I’ve learnt, that do work. Read on for my 5 visibility tips for every successful business.
1.Strike up a conversation.
In other words, engage with your audience on social media. Probably one of the most obvious visibility tips, but an important one to remember. It’s a great way to get to know your audience, where they are at, what they like and also connect. By liking, commenting and sharing their content, they can see what you like too. Which posts work and which ones don’t. If you don’t take the time to engage, I’m afraid it becomes out of sight out of mind. But if you do, every time you comment and your name pops up, it’s a reminder that your business exists.
2.Reach a wider audience with the power of hashtags.
Do hashtags actually work? If you use them correctly, their value is unquestionable. It doesn’t matter if you are a start-up business or you’ve been in the game for a while. So yes, do use hashtags. And be specific. Your ideal client will use a hashtag to find the product or service you are offering. So using the hashtag – #berkshirepersonaltrainer will have far more success than just #personaltrainer. Instagram also gives you the option to follow hashtags, which I would recommend doing within your industry or area of interest. These are great for research, support and inspiration ideas. Check out our LIVE with Sunita Dhaliwal for more hashtag insights here.
3.Get your blog on
This one is important if you want to get your website seen and on page one of google. Let’s face it, who clicks through past the first page? So writing a regular blog including all the relevant SEO’s (Search Engine Optimisation) keywords for your business does two things. Firstly, it keeps the content on your website fresh, meaning it won’t get lost in the dead sea of old unused websites. Second, if you’re using the right SEO’s, it helps Google’s algorithm identify what you’re talking about and enable you to be found by potential clients who may be looking for that.
4.Advertise
With Facebook Ads. These are fantastic for targeting a specific audience. And also reaching a wider audience. They do cost money so it’s worth doing your market research and planning your advert to make sure that you know who you are targeting and what your budget is. There are also lots of lovely Facebook Ad managers out there specifically trained to help you with this. If you’re just starting out, it’s worth paying careful attention to your insights on posts you’ve already to created. So you can see what works and why
5. Show your face
I know, I know, it sounds pretty crazy, right!? And hey, you may have mixed feelings about this one. I did. I had become quite comfortable hiding behind my keyboard. But put quite simply, people love people. We’re curious as humans. We love to see each other’s faces. So if you want your business to become more visible, then *show your face. After all, products are great but we want to see who made them. The Get Video Confident girls can help you with that
*This doesn’t mean you have to learn a new dance routine or perfect your Tiktoc transitions. Just be yourself. The more you are true to yourself, the more people will understand you. And the more they will want to know more about what you are offering.
If you can somehow manage to master the art of all of the above (I’m still working on it), you will indeed become visible to your ideal client. Hurrah! Being found is the first step. Working out what to do with them once they’ve located you is another story. Or another blog post. Have you joined our Facebook support group, Eureka- the community for dreamers and doers? It’s packed full of small businesses from all different walks of life, all offering support and words of advice like the visibility tips included in this blog.
